Occupational Therapist
Since graduating OT school, I have worked primarily as an occupational therapist specializing in adolescent and adult mental health. I have worked in both the public and private sector, focusing on complex mood and anxiety disorders, with secondary diagnoses of ADHD, autism, PTSD, personality disorders, and psychotic symptoms. I also work with people who have no diagnosis but just want some support in better managing their day to day activities and demands! More recently, I've also started working in physical medicine in acute care hospitals and newly in eating disorders. Prior to OT, I worked for several years with children in recreational programs, summer camps, and after-school programs.
I have completed training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, functional cognition, cognitive rehabilitation, ADHD strategies for adults, exposure therapy for anxiety disorders, and trauma informed care. I am currently completing training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
I'm inspired by the moment it "clicks" for a client, and a strategy works. I love seeing improvements over time, no matter how big or small, and watching someone accomplish a goal for the first time. Occupational therapy is such a rewarding career, and the gratification of being a part of someone's journey in achieving what matters most to them, is what motivates me most.
I have always been passionate about healthcare, and pediatric healthcare in particular. As I explored the various careers that exist within healthcare, occupational therapy stood out because of the focus on meaningful activities, and quality of life. I think the following quote sums it up well: "medicine adds days to our lives, but occupational therapy adds life to our days."
