How to respond to a child when they say “I can’t”

How to respond to a child when they say “I can’t”
May 16, 2017Nushabah ZakirEducationalPediatrics

One of the most common phrases I hear when working with children with developmental delays is “I can’t”. Some alternative phrases that can used by parents or caregivers when a child says “I can’t” include:

  1. I believe in you!
  2. Look how far you made it already.
  3. Let’s work together to complete __________
  4. I am very proud of your effort, you are doing great!
  5. Can I demonstrate it for you?
