How to respond to a child when they say “I can’t”
One of the most common phrases I hear when working with children with developmental delays is “I can’t”. Some alternative phrases that can used by parents or caregivers when a child says “I can’t” include:
- I believe in you!
- Look how far you made it already.
- Let’s work together to complete __________
- I am very proud of your effort, you are doing great!
- Can I demonstrate it for you?
